Officer Glenn Penney started his employment with the City of Jackson, Police Department  on June 1, 1978. Penney hired as Patrol Officer was assigned to the Patrol Division until 1990 when he was then transferred to the 26th Judicial Drug Task Force. For a time frame of 5 years he was assigned as a Narcotics Investigator.

Then in November of 2000 Officer Penney's outstanding service was recognized by his peers and he was selected as the Employee of the Month. In May of 2006, Officer Glenn Penney was awarded the Police Life Saving Medal for meritorious action that prolonged a human life. His dedication continued in his private life as well and in May of 2009, while on vacation in Florida he placed himself in danger and rescued a ten year old girl from drowning in the ocean. For this act he was given the Medal of Merit in August of 2010.

Officer Johnny Glenn Penney retired from the Jackson Police Department on June 11, 2010 after serving 32 years with the department.
