Gerald H. Thompson began his career with the Jackson Police Department  on the 1st day of July 1969.  He was hired as a patrol officer and assigned to the Patrol Division.  Officer Thompson distinguished himself as a professional who took the initative to engage the merchants and citizens in an effort to reduce crime in his assigned area.  This style of police work lead Officer Thompson to be nominated by Chief E. B. Alderson as the Kiwanis Club Lawman of the year in 1983.  

Officer Thompson was transferred to Motorcycle in July 3, 1985 where he remained until his retirement.  During his tenure, Gerald H. Thompson numerous letters of appreciation and commendation for his service to the community.  

Officer Gerald H. Thompson retired from the Jackson Police Department on June 14, 1999 after 26 years of service with the department.
