Gary Edward Jones was hired by the Jackson Police Department in 1977.  After graduating from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy, Officer Jones was assigned to the Patrol Division.

Later, Officer Jones became a Field Training Officer in the Patrol Division. His duties were to help new recruits by teaching them the duties and responsibilities as they developed into well rounded Police Officers.  

Officer Jones later became an departmental instructor and taught officers carrying the defensive weapon PR24 during their annual re-cetification. He was also temporarily assigned to PIA (Preliminary Investigations Activity) where he worked with juvenile runaways and offenders.

During his career he received training in the FBI Officer Survivor Specialized Course, American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Course, and  Intoximeter Operation and Defensive Driving.  Officer Jones received several Letters of Appreciates and Letters of Commendations.

Officer Jones was nominated and elected by his peers as the Employee of the Month in December, 2007 at which time Officer Jones was described as possessing a high degree of integrity and a great attitude toward his job.  He was viewed as an officer who was very knowledgeable of the laws and policies of the department.

Officer Gary Edward Jones retired from the Jackson Police Department on March 04, 2011.
