Carl Johnsey began his career with the Jackson Police Department on April 1, 1948.  He was hired as a patrol officer assigned to the Patrol Division.

Johnsey was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was transferred to the Traffic Division on September 1, 1952.   Then Sgt. Johnsey was promted to Lieuteant on May 1, 1959 and he later advanced to become Captain in the Traffic Patrol Division on March 1, 1969.  

Captain Carl Lee Johnsey continued to show his knowledge and ability and was promoted to Assistant Chief on April 15, 1972 and seven years later was promoted to Deputy Chief on January 1, 1980.

Deputy Chief Carl Lee Johnsey retired from the Jackson Police Department on March 1, 1983 after serving over 35 years at the department.
