Robert Mainord was appointed the Chief of Police of the Jackson Police Department on February 15, 1927 on a trial basis. Chief Mainord was not new to law enforcement, having served as a deputy under his father, also Robert, who was Sheriff of Madison County.

Chief Robert A. Mainord retired from the Jackson Police Department on August 15, 1959 after 32 years of dedicated service to the department. Chief Mainord was one of the most respected Chief's in the department's history.
