James Rudy Stanfill began his career at  the Jackson Police Department as a Police Officer on May 15, 1977. He worked as a Patrolman and transferred to the Traffic Division on July 16, 1980.  Officer Stanfill became a departmental radar instructor and taught officers the proper operational techniques during in-service training.

Early in Officer Stanfill's career he also saw a need for additional specialized training in the area of hostage negotiation. Thus he sought out such training and attended a Crisis Intervention School taught by the F.B.I. which he successfully completed.  Then in 1983, Officer Stanfill was instrumental in forming the department's  Hostage Negotiating Team to which he was assigned and experienced much success with.

On August 26,  1987, Officer Stanfill was promoted to Investigator and transferred to the Juvenile Division.     where he worked until the Juvenile Divison was disband as part of a reorganization of the Criminal Investigation Division. Then on June 27, 1990, Stanfill was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred back to the Patrol Division.  He was also later promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on September 11, 1996 and then to Captain in July 21,  2010.

Captain James Rudy Stanfill received numerous letters of appreciation and commendation for his service to the community.  He was also voted the Jackson Police Departments Employee of the Month in June 1995.  Also during his tenure, Captain Stanfill was an intergal part of numerous professional, civic and community groups and organizations.
