Robert Randy Ryan came to the Jackson Police Department after serving as a Corrections Officer in Tiptonville, TN and as a Police Officer in Yuma, AZ.  Mr. Ryan also served his country in the United States Marine Corp for 21 years.  He served the USMC as SSGT. Manager of the Enlisted Club and Asst. Manager of the Officers Club.  Mr. Ryan always wanted to be a marine, but his dream was to be a police officer.  He was 44 years old when he was hired as a police officer byt he Jackson Police Department.  He loved the job and looked forward to going to work everyday.  He also had a love of helping people and "putting the bad ones" in jail.  He liked working with all of the officers and always said, "being a cop is like having the best seat in the house".  You see so much of human behavior.  He hated to retire, but at the age of 61, he felt it was time to go.  He stated that "I don't think there is no better job!"

Officer Ryan began his career in the Patrol Division in 1998.  He was transferred to the DUI Task Force on October 31, 1990, where he remained until the program was eliminated in 2003.  During that time, he became a Standardized Field Sobriety Instructor,  Officer Ryan was the recipient of two Lifesaving medals and one Medal of Valor.  He also received 29 commendations and the "Employee of the Month" in March 2002.  He was proud to be a part of the Jackson Police Department.
