Charles Warren Roberts begin his law enforcement career at the Jackson Police Department on July 1, 1949.  Then Officer Roberts was assigned to the Patrol Division.  Then on November 27, 1951, Officer Roberts left his position with the Police Department to enter military service with the United States Air Force where he served for four years.  He served as an investigator for the Air Force Provost Marshals Office and the Office of Special Investigation which could be compared to working as a FBI Agent as a civilian.

On December 16, 1955, Officer Roberts was reinstated at the Jackson Police Department and returned to his assignment in the Patrol Division where he remained until January 1, 1960 when he was promoted to Detective Sergeant in the Detective Division.  

On June 16, 1963 Roberts was promoted to Detective Lieutenant while still serving in the Detective Division and then on September 1, 1970 he was promoted to the rank of Captain.  During Capt. Roberts service he received numerous letters of commendation recognizing his outstanding investigative skills and dedication to his profession.

Captain Warren Roberts retired from the Jackson Police Department on August 31, 1974 and began a career with the District Attorney General's Office as the Chief Investigator where he remained until he was elected as the Sheriff of Madison County in 1978.  

Warren Roberts continued his service to the citizens of Madison County for four terms totaling sixteen (16) years as the Sheriff of Madison County.  Sheriff Roberts career in law enforcement spans 45 years and 2 months plus the four (4) years during his military service.
