Bobby Ray Holt began his career in law enforcement on May 1, 1964 which was prior to the existence of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.  However, upon TLETA forming Holt was received a Certificate of Compliance.

Once then Officer Bobby Holt was hired he was assigned to the Patrol Division where he served for approximately nine years.  Then on April 16, 1973, Officer Holt was transferred to the Criminal Investigative Division as an Investigator.

On January 1, 1975, Investigator Holt was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and later in the year he was given an opprotunity to attend the United States Department of Justice Law Enforcement Assistance Administration Special Training Course.  Sgt. Holt upon completing the special training became the Officer in Charge of Drug Enforcement along with his regular investigative duties.  Then a short time later the Metro Narcotics Unit was formed between the Jackson Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff's Department.  As the illicit drug problems grew it became apparent that there was a need to expand the the Metro Narcotics Unit to a Judicial District Drug Unit.  Thus an agreement was made between the Jackson Police Department, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Henderson County Sheriff's Department, Lexington Police Department, Chester County Sheriff's Department, and the Henderson Police Department to partner in the war on drugs and Sgt. Holt became the Unit Commander over the 26th Judicial District Drug Task Force where he served until his retirement on July 14, 1989 at the rank of Captain.  During Captain Bobby Holt's tenure, he received numerous letters of commendation for his dedication and service to the department and the community.

After retiring, Bobby Holt continued his law enforcement career working part-time with the U.S. Marshal Service and the Tennessee Supreme Court before retiring permantely in 2009.
