Ray G. Pratt began his career in law enforcement at the Jackson Police Department on July 1, 1957.  Officer Pratt obtained his Certificate of Compliance from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and was assigned to the Fingerprint Department of the Detective and Identification Bureaus as an Identification Officer.  He went on to be promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 1961.  

On February 1, 1966, Pratt was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to the Detective Division where he played a significate part in forming the Narcotics Division.  Then on May 1, 1972, Pratt was promoted to Captain over Central Records and Identification where he remained until he retired on September 27, 1983.

During Captain Pratt's tenure he received several personnal letters of commendation.  He also was nominated and was elected the Charles W. Wooten Lodge # 7 Officer of the Year on December 20, 1980.  

Prior to his employement with the Jackson Police Department, Captain Pratt was in the U.S. Army served two years and nineteen months during the Korean war.  He also worked with the Federal Bureau of Investigations for five years under Director J. Edgar Hoover's era.  Captain Pratt was assigned to the Fingerprint and Identification Division while with the F.B.I.
