Jerry Wayne West began his career in law enforcement with the Jackson Police Department on August 24, 1974.  Then later in the year he received his Certificate of Compliance from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.  While at the training academy, Officer West was elected by his fellow classmates to serve as the Vice President of the class.  Upon returning to the department, West was assigned to the Patrol Division.  As an ancillary duty, Officer West was responsible for city sticker and abandoned vehicle enforcement as well as responding to calls for service.    

During Officer West tenure at the Jackson Police Department, he received numerous accolades and personnal letter of commendation.  He was nominated and elected the Officer of the Monthe in August, 1991 and received the Respect for Law Award from the Optimist Club in September, 1997.  

Officer West was a Medal of Merit Award recipient twice.  One of the Medal of Merit Awards was awarded by Mayor Jerry Gist and Chief of Police Gill Kendrick recognizing Officer West for having written 13,000 tickets for No City Tags and 5, 200 tickets for parking in Handicap parking.

Officer Jerry West retired from the Jackson Police Department on May 8, 1999 at the rank of Patrol Officer IV.  After retiring Officer West returned to duty as a part time unifiormed parking enforcement officer.  He worked from August 29, 2005 until June 30, 2010.
