James Daniel Hale is a 1976 graduate of Jackson-Central Merry High School and continued his education at Jackson State Community College.  He later became a member of the United States Army Reserved/Tennessee Army National Guard.  He was a member of the Air Defense Artillery.  He became an Army Instructor and later became a member of the Military Police.  He received various awards and medals.  In 1989, he received and Honorable Discharge.

Captain James Daniel Hale was hired by the Jackson Police Department on May 5, 1980.  He graduated from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy as was assigned to the Patrol Division.  Officer Hale transferred to the Traffic Division in 1985.  He later transferred back to the Patrol Division as a Field Traiing Officer and part of the DUI Task Force where he was later promoted to Sergeant in 1996.  He also attended school to become a certified DUI Sobriety Instructor.  He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Patrol Division in 2003.

In July 2013, Lt. Hale was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Operational Support Division.  His duties included Accident Reconstruction, Critical Incident Management, Homeland Security, and the Project Lifesaver Program, along with Special Events within the City of Jackson.

During his career, he was a member of the Accident Review Board and Jackson Police Department Interview Board.  He was also a member of the Mobile Field Force, Coordinator of  the Community Radio Watch Program, JPD Training Committee, Emergency Vehilce Operations Instructor and Accident Reconstruction  Department Coordinator and Community Oriented Policing Team.  He is a certified as a Terrorist Liasion Officer, Driving Instructor, Law Enforcement Instructor, Crime Analysis and Mapping, and Incident Management.  He was also a member of the Security Clearance Program  where he received Secret Clearance.

Captain Hale was awarded the Police Livesaving Medal on June 17, 2004 for performing CPR on Sgt. Andy Bailey, who was mortally wounded by gunfire while attempting to apprehend an armed, violent suspect.  He was recognized as "Employee of the Month" by his peers in 1993, 2008, and 2012.  He also received 41 letters of commendations, numerous letters of appreciation and various military awards and medals.

Captain Hale has been married to his wife, Patricia, for 26 years.  They are the parents of three children and proud grandparents of five.
