Prior to Captain Thomas Leeowen Acuff being employed with the Jackson Police Department he was a veteran of WW II and the Korean War.  During World War II, he served in North Africa, Italy, France, and Germany with the United States Army.

On September 01, 1948 Thomas Leeowen Acuff was hired on with the Jackson Police Department’s Patrol Division.  Ten years later Patrolman Acuff was promoted to Sergeant.  On March 01, 1969 then Sgt. Acuff was promoted to Traffic Lieutenant.  Three years later he was promoted to the rank of Traffic Captain and remained in that position until his retirement with nearly forty years of service to the City of Jackson. 

Captain Acuff had received special training in the Military Police School and F.B.I. Schools.  Furthermore, he was a member of the Civil Defense, Fraternal Order of Police, National Guard Association of Tennessee, National Guard Association of the U.S., Jackson Lodge No. 45, Shrine Al Chymia Temple, Jackson Shrine Club, VFW, American Legion, Loyal Order of Moose, Tennessee and Mississippi Sheriff and Peace Officers, and Tennessee Law Enforcement Officers Association.  His hobby is woodcraft.

During his service with the City of Jackson’s Police Department, Captain Acuff had received numerous Letters of Commendation and Certificates of Training.
