The Jackson Police Department welcomed Calvin Lawrence Scott as a police officer on April 19, 1993.  He served as a patrolman in the Patrol Division, the Community Crime Reduction Unit (CCRU) and the Gang Enforcement before his promotion to Sergeant in March of 1999.  During his service with the CCRU, he received a resolution from the Jackson Housing Authority Board of Commissioners recognizing his commitment and determination to be part of the Drug Elimination Program, assisting JHA in its efforts to provide safe homes, free from noise, distrubance and crime on June 23, 1998.  He was honored by his peers with the "Employee of the Month" Award in November 2006,

Sgt. Scott recevied the Medal of Valor in 2002.  In 2006, he recevied his second Medal of Valor for his assistance in removing a victim of a car crash from underneath a burning vehicle.  Sgt. Scott and others, with disregard for personal safety, approached the buring car and together lifted it off the victim's legs and pulled her to safety.  Despite being severely burned, the victim survived the crash.

Sgt. Scott also recevied the Medal of Merit in May 2009 for his work in formulating and commanding the Police Honor Guard.  The Honor Guard became known throughout West Tennessee and was called upon several times to present the color guard for LANA Flag Day, Relay for Life events, NAIA National Basketball Tournament, and other law enforcement agencies.

He received his second Medal of Merit in 2012 after 18 years of meritorious service to the Jackson Police Department.
