James Anderson, Jr. began his careeer at the Jackson Police Department in 1982.  After graduating from the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy and he was assigned to the Patrol Division.

Anderson was transferred and he became a Warrant Officer in 1989. He served as a Warrant Officer controlling prisoners held in the jail and handling court security. He was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2002.

During his career Anderson served on several community interests groups and attended numerous educational courses covering various topics such as Drug Enforcement Training,  Emergency Responder Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Responder Operations. Sergeant Anderson received a number of Letters of Appreciation and Commendations.  

Sergeant Anderson was named Employee of the Month in June 1992 and he received the Police Metal of Valor in September, 1995 after interupting an attempted robbery of the City and County Employee Credit Union.  Sergeant Anderson's quick thinking and courageous actions that day was instrumental in the capture of the two armed suspects and more importantly the employees of the credit union were spared potential harm.  

Sergeant James Anderson Jr. was a graduate of East High School. He also attended Jackson State Community College and Memphis State University.

After serving over 25 years, Sergeant James Anderson Jr. retired from the Jackson Police Department March 20, 2008.
