James Davis began his career with the Jackson Police Department as a police officer in March 1940 and then he seperated from his employment in December 1943.  On February 8, 1944, James Davis returned to the Jackson Police Department as a police officer.  During his service, Davis climb to the rank to Lieutenant with the Investigation Division which he obtained in September, 1952.

Lieutenant Davis retired from the Jackson Police Department January 1966, after serving the community for over 25 years.
