Daniel L. Murphy began his career at Jackson Police Department on November 15, 1952 when he was hired as a patrol officer.  Murphy was assigned to the Patrol Division.

On April 1, 1963, Officer Murphy was promoted to Sergeant and transferred to the Traffic Division.  Then 6 years and 5 mos. later Sgt. Murphy was promoted to Lieutenant on September 1, 1970 while in place over the Traffic Division.  

During his career Lt. Murphy received several letters of appreciation and commentation for his sevice to the community.  He later retired on full medical disability on April 1, 1973.
