Alex Hunt, Jr. began his career with the Jackson Police Department January 1965 as a Patrol Officer.  In 1973, he was transferred to the Community Relations Division and remained in that division for the duration of his career, during which time he was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant.

In 1978 he completed the Motorcycle Safety Instructor Course as well as many law enforcement training sessions and courses in community development.  He led the way with many community involvement programs, bridging the gap between law enforcement and the citizens of the city.  He was affectionately know as "Officer Friendly" to the youth of the community, being very active with the schools and youth of Jackson-Madison County area.

During his career, Lt. Hunt was the recipient of numerous honors and awards from both the Department and the community.  The most outstanding one being the "E. Harper Johnson Human Relations Award for a Layperson" from the Tennessee Education Association received April 22, 1988.

Lt. Alex Hunt, Jr. retired from the Jackson Police Department January 1990, having served the community for 25 years.
