R. T. Hollis began his career with the Jackson Police Department on August 16, 1953 as a patrolman.  Hollis was assigned to the Patrol Division.   Then on October 15, 1960,  Officer Hollis was transferred to the Traffic Division.  

On March 1, 1969, Officer Hollis was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Later, on May 1, 1972 Sgt. Hollis was promoted to Lieutenant.  Lt. Hollis spent the greater portion of his career assigned to the Traffic Division and received specialized training from the University of Tennessee Knoxville - Department of Civil Engineering "Signalization - Field Installation and Maintenance".  

Lt.  Richard Thomas Hollis received some letters of apprecation and commendation for his service to the community.  Lt. Hollis retired from the Jackson Police Department on January 8, 1985 after 31 years and 5 mos of service with the department.
